Default UPDATE Could we have "Get your furry butt home" purrs forPrincess, please?

It's Wednesday evening, almost 48 hours since we last saw Princess.

We have looked EVERYwhere, even in places she could not possibly have
gotten, just in case. Not at the neighbors's (not that we have many),
not on our property, not in, around, under, or on the house...

No Princess. John is frantic. I'm more resigned at this point, but still
hopeful.

Tomorrow morning, he will call to cancel the vet appointment, in hopes
that she will come back then and he can corral her and re-do the
appointment. Keep fingers, paws and eyes crossed!

Thank you for all the purrs so far. In all the cats we've had over the
years (I think I once counted up nearly 30, with a maximum of 13 at any
one time, some fosters, some roommates' cats, most ours), we have had
only ONE disappearance...and that was Persephone the Psycho Cat, who we
were not particularly unhappy to have lost. We think she just found a
place she liked better.

But Princess! We've had her since she was a kitten 16 years ago, and
while she's always been an approach/avoidance kitty ("Pet me! but don't
touch me!") and gotten all pointy when you try to pick her up (but is
fine if she comes up on her own), she's always loved it here. The last
several years, she has rarely gone out of the house. It's nearly
inconceivable that she would choose to wander off for someplace better,
unless (like KFC) she is getting confused...in which case we need to
find her ASAP and make sure she stays safe.

Again, thanks for the purrs. It is much appreciated. I will update again
when I have more news.

No. Thank you for asking, Dan. We even cancelled the appointment with
TED, and she still didn't show up.

John did find a "cat warren" we had not been aware even existed, in the
brambles near the grapevine. He saw Shane disappearing in there, and
knelt down to reach in and see what he could find. It went on a long
way, and although he reached as far as he could (and he has long arms),
he did not find Shane or Princess or anything. But as he said "no
telling how far back it might have gone".

We both have the unmistakable sense that she is in there, and has gone
RB, and that Shane was showing us. Most likely, she went in to have a
cozy nap, and did not wake up. Or, at least, we prefer to think that.

We have chosen not to tear all the brambles down to look for her. (It's
not clear we COULD, actually.) By now, it is best to let her rest in
peace, and look forward to seeing her with all the others at the Rainbow
Bridge.

John reminded me this morning that we may well see a spate, as so many
of our cats are getting pretty up there (17, 15, 14, 11, 4, 2 and 2).

I very much appreciate all the purrs and support. Thank you from the
bottom of my heart. IF she should saunter back in, I will be sure to let
the group know.

Still purring and praying that she might yet come home, happy and healthy.

Please do.
If you're right about the warren, purrs that she went peacefully.

Phoenix, when you went to the neighbors, did you have them open all
out-buildings? I've heard so many stories of people closing garages,
tool sheds, etc. and not knowing a cat wandered in.

My aunt's cat was found stuck in the crawl space of a house a few doors
down. Our own kitten was found stuck in the base of the chimney (crawled
on top of the fireplace insert and jumped to the ground between the
insert and chimney wall.) Both were found alive, by the way.

I would hang signs up everywhere and don't give up. Any fences around
that she could be stuck in? How about up in a tree? Maybe she got a
surge of energy and went up too high? Try shining a flashlight around
the yard and trees and night -- look for glowing eyes.

Good luck!

Rhonda

I'm so sorry to hear this news. Purrs are ongoing that she still may show
up.

I sympathise with you on the fact that Princess is missing. If I
thought my cat was in the "warren" I would do whatever I had to do to
find out. I can't believe you can accept that she is RB in there. You
should tear apart the brambles and find out for sure.

Thank you for sharing.

You clearly don't have himalayan blackberries, a very lumpy hill, and
major mobility issues. Nor heat that was near 100 degrees.

As I've posted before, we have had an enormous number of cats owning us
over the last 17 years, and out of those, only 1 ever disappeared until
now, and all of the rest have been loved, vetted, and lived to very ripe
old ages.

Princess was, in fact, a ripe old age for a cat.

We have done what we can, as best we can, which is all any of us can do.

However, if you want to come to Oregon and clear the brambles for me, I
am happy to have the help.

Your idea of sympathy is sadly lacking.

I vote we toss you into the brier patch to look.
