'The Mooch House'
I haven't written much lately about Mooch, our resident stray, so
here's the latest. Back in the summer we bought him a small plastic dog house, and a cat bed and heating pad that fitted inside it. We weren't sure if he'd use it, but we installed under the veranda table. We didn't have to worry. Increasingly as the Canadian winter deepened he'd pop into it, although he'd still also use his padded chair with blankets and another heating pad. But early this morning was different. It's bitterly cold, down to almost zero Fahrenheit. I peeked down from the livingroom window at the chair, as I always do. There was a cat in it all right, but it was the neighbour's little tabby! I went out on the veranda and the tabby vanished, just as Mooch appeared from his house and strolled over to me for his breakfast. Usually after he eats he wants to play and get scritched and patted, but not on this freezing morning. He dived straight back into his Mooch House, as we call it! And just now I went on the veranda with his brunch and water. He emerged from his house, ate and drank, and promptly returned to his digs. So our investment is well worth while! Here's the ad for his house, and a photo of him in it. http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2751410 http://twitpic.com/mqvx4 |

Winter in Canada, for a feral cat: I just can't imagine how horrible it must be. Many, perhaps most true ferals, probably don't last more than 1 or 2 winters. Long enough to reproduce, but that's about it What a terrible thing to think about. But how nice to see Mooch all snug and warm! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ^..^ "Life without cats would be only marginally worth living." -TC, and the unmercifully, relentlessly, sweet calico kitty, Kenzie. Every day is a treasure with Kenzie; I try to treat them that way. There will only be so many, and then there will never, ever, be any more. Mooch reminds me of Sam except that Sammy knew a good thing when he found it and came on inside when invited. Julie |

Sam may also never have come inside if there was a Mooch House outside! |
