I don't think you got it. The government needs to tell the people. I have

You're not looking hard enough. There has been plenty said. Cats are one of the animals at risk of TSE's. Poultry feed is allowed to have M-B-M material of rendered beef. Cat food mainly consists of poultry and poultry by-products. You do the math. -- Cheryl "I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. One of our vets at the cat hospital, a lady on exchange from Britain, suggested
last year that we take the animals off red meat altogether. They eat chicken, turkey and several kinds of fish. We do not feed the dogs turkey, as it gives them terrible flatulence. Be careful how much fish you give to male cats, particularly if they have not been neutered. Can cause plumbing problems in them. Jeanne PS-- Chaucer caught his 12th mouse on Christmas morning. |

Anything? Depends how far away the nuclear blast was. LOL Roaches are said to be resistant to radiation because of their keratin exoskeleton (this should be true also for all other insects). If keratin, a protein, survives radiation, this prion that causes BSE might resist radiation too. If I remember correctly, keratin cannot be digested either (by any organism) so that means it resists all enzymes. If this prion has this same property, it cannot be destroyed by enzymes either. It might have, since it enters the bloodstream from the gut unchanged. Therefore, the only thing that can destroy this protein is the only thing that can destroy keratin: fire or temperatures high enough to burn it. This would not be useful to sterilize food as the temperatures would carbonize food and nobody would be willing to eat coal. So the only solution to the problem might be for the UK to incinerate all their cattle, as they did recently to swines (?) because of aftose fever. |
