Hitting the road

[Harri Roadcat climbs into the HarriMobile, an RV built on the body of a
Freightliner Classic XL with an extended frame, and fires up the diesel
engine. The remaining kitties and diggies board RVs and kittycycles, and
Mikey Furface's crew directs everybody into a line, Mikey himself steps
up to a periscope and begins to scan the surface area in front of Navy
Pier. Seeing no traffic on Grand Ave, Mikey signals to a kitty standing
at a control board. A switch is thrown, and up on Grand Ave a set of
steel bollards rise to block Grand Ave, and the street beyond the
bollards begins to sink, forming a ramp from the under-pier area to the
surface. When the ramp reaches it's lowest position the vehicles move
out with the HarriMobile in the lead.

The convoy heads west on Grand to Michigan Ave, then turns south. They
pass the Hard Rock Hotel and Millenium Park with it's sculpture called
Cloud Gate (better known as The Bean). On reaching Adams St and the Art
Institute the convoy turns to the west. Harri picks up the intercom
microphone and addresses the convoy:]

Ok, kitties, dis is da beginning of Route 66. Up dere, less dan half a
mile ahead of us, is Willis Tower. Mine hoomins still call it Sears
Tower. Just after the Tower we will cross da Chicatgo River.

[A couple miles after turning onto Adams, the convoy turns to the
southwest on Ogden Ave.]

kitty convoy pulls toward the very back of the parking area and stops
next to a very old dumpster sitting a foot or two from the back wall.
Amelia climbs out of the RV driven by Samuel Redcat and heads between
the dumpster and the wall. She finds a well-concealed metal door and
knocks three times. A peep-hole in the door slides open and a chocolate
brown Havana Brown kitty peeks out. Seeing kitty guests waiting, he
opens the door and gestures everybody in.]

Well, we'll initially be followin' Route 66
(http://www.historic66.com/description/), but once we get to Catifurnia
some kitties wanted to see da La Brea Tar Pits (in Los Angeles) an da
redwood trees (up in Yosemite and further north, so we could continue
north to Seattle.
