OT - Playing 'possum' (american possum)
Just a little while ago I went out to my garage to check on my feeding
station, making sure there is enough food and water out for the local cats. When I came around the side of the house, what do I see but a young 'possum sitting on my back step! I stopped - he looked at me. I hissed at him (they don't like that) and he backed farther onto my step. Hummm. I took a step towards him, and he hissed at me! Little sh*t. I went around to the front door and called my hubby to come and see him. I walked back just as Dave was opening the door. The possum fainted. Stiff as a board, drooling and hardly breathing. Humpf. I stepped over him and came into the house to get some catnip for one of my outside girls. She was there begging for it. I stepped back over him to give her the 'nip. She sniffed at him, gave him a 'what the heck' look and went off to enjoy her treat. I stepped over him again to go back in the house - he still didn't move. After about 10 minutes I went and checked, and he was gone. What a wild night! G Patti (in lovely Bridgeport, NY, USA) |

Yes, the little fella was "playing 'possum"
they must learn that @ an early age. Or do you think it's inborn to their species? A family of them lived underneath our backyard spa and when we were in it late w/minimal lights back there, sometimes one would walk the edge (it was an early Jacuzzi, octogan-shaped) around us with its dainty little feet (they never ever fell in w/us LOL). We never moved till it left, so they never "played 'possum". "CatNipped" wrote in message ... "Mishi" wrote in message ... Several years ago I was walking my dog Sampson (RB) when I spotted a tiny opossum hunkered down under the bushes out back. I put Sammy back inside and went out to watch the little critter. It had a face like an owl except with a long snout and a cute pink nose. It ignored me and meandered over to a tree and proceeded to climb up, slowly. They are nocturnal and it was broad daylight so I gather it was moving a tad slowly. Either that or it was trying to make me think it had an "I don't care" attitude Jill |

The last time I saw one, I was in Florida, it was a tiny one, too, but this one puffed up, hissed and waved its teeny-tiny claws at me. I assured the little mite that it was VERY scary.
