So maybe just ask the no-kill shelter if they have room for two more. The money... I've quit worrying about that, Ben says he has that under control and won't get into it will me so I have no choice but to believe him, he has stashes I didn't know about (no it doesn't bother me, I ceded him financial responsibility, no questions asked, some time ago. Yeah, I know that's not very wise, but it's the only thing that works for me or I'd drive myself into a nervous breakdown while bankrupting us all over again. We're considering two strays, about 7 or 8 weeks old, as additions to the household. This home has been too, too filled with gloom and doom and sadness for far too long now - and unhealthy atmosphere for *ALL* its residents, not just me. I'm looking for names. Before we just sort of randomly picked names from the top of our heads without research or consideration - these I want to have distinctive, unusual names - one boy cat, one girl cat. I'm going to up load pictures to FB in just a moment and will download then upload to my web site for those without FB. I'll reply with those links in a few minutes if that will help with the naming. Other than that, do you think it wise to add two more furbabies to our existing four? I know it's going to cost us a fortune for all the vet care they need, but we're prepared to dig into our little bit of savings and delay some bills for their sake. I say no, it's not wise. I thought you were on the verge of losing your house not long ago. Have things changed for the better financially? Ben has a good steady job? I'm thinking realistically since I haven't seen and love those kittens. Maybe one instead of two would be wiser? What about your existing kitties and their vet needs should they get very, very ill and need thousands of dollars in care? Not the answer you wanted, I know, but you asked. Sorry to be so negative. Bobble I understand totally. Your heart got ahead of your head. Once in awhile mine does too, like when I buy my old Snaggler his fave brand (expensive comparably) of cat treats instead of the cheaper brands on the lower shelves in Petsmart. At lease you have a good no-kill shelter for the two. MileHigh has many, out in the 'burbs, funded and run by some very well-off citizens here. Thank Bast they are not in *my* 'burb; I would probably be over there getting another cat for Snag to bully in here. Lord knows what he would do to a kitten. Those posh no-kills are way on other side of town...where I never drive to. I could afford another but already tried that and failed; newcomer went to a friend's place as I can't stay here and referee 24/7. A simple solution would be to foster them.. That way you can have kitteny goodness but without the added veterinary costs or worry about what may happen to them if they outlive you. it also gives you a good idea about how your current residents will react to kittens. Yowie That would be *great*, if Lori could manage to do that. It makes me sad to think they will just be dumped back into the outdoors where they'll be exposed to all kinds of disease, mean cats, dogs, etc. Because they really are so cute, I would think they'd have a fair chance at a Forever Home. They don't seem (from the pic & description) to be "feral" at all, at least not so much they can't be tamed. Usually foster org's provide vet care, and some even litter. Sherry |

That would be an idea- they're probably not too old that with some TLC they couldn't be socialised enough to be indoor cats (or at least indoor/outdoor ones) and I am sure Lori can socialise them so they can go onto a forever home, which is going to be a lot easier if the shelter can honestly say they're well socialised and good with other cats (although that remains to be seen). Our local shelters love people who are prepared to foster and give them food, litter and vet care (they'd have to provide that anyway and it frees up pens for other cats- recently they appealed for fosterers because otherwise they were going to have to turn cats away) Of course it does mean you have to hand them over to someone else when the forever home turns up (although one lady I know who does this for the local shelter says whilst its hard she's met their new slaves, decided they're perfect and she regularly gets reports on her fosterers progress from besotted slaves- she's in her late 60's and wants to have cats but realistically doesn't want to commit to a kitten or a cat when she might not outlive them- I've thought when we get to a certain age we'd adopt older cats or foster) Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs |
