lapcat slave truth
That's a hoot! I've heard this called COL (Cat On Lap Syndrome). I
never heard of that strip. I love the names, as they are names of folk singers that I like. |

Well, years ago, someone on this ng claimed that there was a Swedish word that means "I can't come to the door because I have a cat on my lap." I haven't since been able to get anyone to validate that claim, and I guess I have to face the fact that I've had my chain yanked. Still, it's a good idea for a word, isn't it? I never heard of that strip. I love the names, as they are names of folk singers that I like. Yeah, I think that was probably intentional. The couple in the strip are sort of post-hippie-ish. Joyce |

I'm afraid you have had your chain yanked. My home language is Swedish and I've never heard a word that would mean that Whoops, it wasn't Swedish. It was an unspecified Scandanavian country. And it wasn't a definitive statement, it was a "I once heard that..." kind of statement. I finally looked up the post, and my only defense for my poor recollection is that it was posted several years ago. Here it is: OSPAM (LStlaurenc) Subject: Can't move.... Date: 12 Nov 1999 02:51:46 GMT Did anyone else see the program on PBS a couple of years back about the Scandinavian country that has a special word in its language meaning "Sorry I can't get up to greet you now; I have a cat in my lap"? Maybe we should all go there to live? Joyce |

Maybe we should all go there to live? Yes, I see. But I understand all the Scandinavian languages fairly well (all related to Swedish, except Finnish which I know because I live in Finland), and I still can't think of such a word. It's a nice thought, though. -- Marina, Frank and Nikki marina (dot) kurten (at) pp (dot) inet (dot) fi Pics at http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/frankiennikki/ and http://community.webshots.com/user/frankiennikki |

It's a nice thought, though. All these years, I've nursed this lovely little illusion that somewhere in Scandanavia, there was an actual word meaning "I have a cat on my lap." I think we need such a word!! It certainly comes up in my life often enough. Joyce |

It's a nice thought, though. I haven't been to Finland, but I manage to amuse my Swedish and Danish colleagues. My limited attempts to speak in the local tongue seem invariably to result in my speaking Svensk to the Danes and Dansk to the Swedes. |
