Ping Yowie Possible FB Solution

I found this using a google search. Here the pertinent part of the page:

However, my friend Jason Dorsey discovered a quick fix. Here’s how it
works:

1.The administrator of the group opens the group page and copies the
group’s full URL. NOTE: Make sure you DO NOT copy the sequence
&view=doc, or anything to the right of that sequence. That is all
personal user ID information and it will thus block the user from seeing
the group URL properly.

2.The administrator sends the URL to the individual with instructions to
copy the URL into the browser bar and open it.

3.When the page opens, it will display an “Ask to join” button for the
user to click.

4.Once the user clicks on the button, the administrator gets a
notification requesting to accept the user into the group.

5.The administrator accepts the request.

This seems to be the only working solution to this problem. If you hear
of any others, please let me know!!

UPDATE: This solution doesn’t appear to work in all cases, but cheer up!
Readers have listed other great workarounds in the comment thread to
this post. Check them out, one of these could work for you!

UPDATE 2: Based on the many comments below, this problem still appears
to be largely unresolved.
