Default When it rains it pours....

We just lost both of our cars. Ok, one was 25 years old and the other was 15. But they were both running fine until they both decided to just up and die.
I have to wait until DH comes home from his office in Boulder, CO until I can look for a new car. Been looking at used Toyotas and the damn things cost over $15k...USED! Augh.
Then, my next door neighbor had an emergency because her furnace was emitting carbon monoxide (or so the furnace guy told her) and she had to have the thing replaced like RIGHT AWAY!
So, panicky little me called the a/c-heating people and the guy came out today and thank goodness my furnace will still last us through one more winter. The humidifier is shot, though. Have to have a new one put in next week or my furniture will dry up and splinter this winter. That's $600 more that could have gone towards the new car.
No car, no grocery shopping, etc. I have to cadge rides from the neighbors when they can take me.
Eeeeeep.

So sorry to hear that. If it's any consolation, right now it's a very
good time to buy a car. Interest rates are very low and most
manufacturers have all kinds of deals going on. Take the time to look at
new cars too, you might be surprised how affordable some can be.

Purrrrrs coming your way from Symba and I that things get better. Victor is right though. You should check out new cars and program cars as well. It is getting close to the end of the year and you would be amazed at the deals that are out there right now. Check out the classified car ads in your Sunday paper. The rebates that are being offered right now are amazing. Good luck. We are purring for ya

You might want to check out www.bytel.com. That's how I bought my car. Granted, it was three years ago, but I got my 2000 Toyota Corolla brand new for under 15K. It also saves a lot of legwork and a lot of haggling. Anyway, it doesn't cost anything to visit the site and see if it's for you.

Lots of purrs headed your way Irulan. I know how frustrating car
problems can be. DH and I usually drive what we term disposable cars.
Those that are bought cheap enough that in 5 or 6 years you don't mind
junking them to buy the next. The best car DH ever owned was a $600
Yugo. It ran for about 6 years!! We'll keep our fingers crossed that
your heater holds out through the winter and that you're able to find
a reliable car soon.

Echoing Sherry's sentiment. Good luck in your quest both for a car and a
humidifier.

Victor is *so* right about new-car deals going on now! The dealers' lots are
loaded due to the poor economy, etc., and not only are they making 0%
interest deals on financing, there are rebates to be had on certain models
of certain car-makers. We don't buy anything but American-made vehicles, but
I'm sure the foreign-car market is making deals as well to get rid of their
inventories. Go looking! I'd not be surprised if for a couple hundred down
you could get an affordable deal, but that's very personal......if you get
on the Net, and look up your favorite make of vehicle, you can look up its
local dealers where you are, and even look up their inventories! There are
also calculators where you can figure out what your payment would be on
whatever you want. I have personally looked this stuff up at Ford.com. and
see no reason why it would not be available for any other make.

when I first read it I read "car" as "cat" - and very glad to find
that was a mistake.
