I looked at pet insurance at once time but decided against it. Most
policies have a life-time maximum payout that is unreasonable considering
the cost of the policy, and some cover only certain specified conditions and
only for certain amounts. I finally decided to self-insure, instead. I
opened a small savings account just for Holly and Duffy, and I have added a
small amount to it every month since then. That was 2-1/2 years ago, and it
is building because I have never touched it. It is "reserved" for
unexpected and expensive procedures, not for routine exams.

Warning: Pet insurance usually doesn't cover vaccinations. Silly if you
ask me, you'd have thought they would want to minimise the risk of a
pay out!

I've never had pet insurance, too many restrictions. For years we had
two credit cards with a total value of about =A32,000, which were
labelled "Emergencies only" and they were for the cats. Now we have
some money put by so we are covered for vet bills. (The irony being
that this is money from my mum's estate and she was not a cat fan!)

I think Mary L's idea is best of all. I ought to put some funds in a
seperate account for the furballs

No No No.
We had it at one time. If an animal is very sick & needs to be put
down, you have to have the opinion of several vets while your
beloved pet suffers. I understand why they have this rule, but would
never have the insurqance again. Yes, we had our beloved Chirpie put
down & did not use the insurance. We paid for it. Beware of pet
insurance.
