Default Harness Training update

She still fights me when i try to put on the harness. She struggles a
bit and complains quite loudly about this UGLY THING that Meowmie is
strapping on her.

She still hunkers down as soon as i put her outside and refuses to
budge a SINGLE step. She'll just sit there, twitching her tail and
meow at me.

"See, Missy? You get to go outside when the harness is on."

"Meow!" (Get this ugly piece of s*** OFF of me!)

"Aw come on, Missy, don't you wanna go explore?"

"Meow!" (I'm not taking ONE step with this THING on)

So I sit there for a bit and scratch her. She does the elevator butt
and continues meowing.

"You like smelling the outdoors, don't you?"

"Meow!" (Please take this thing off, it's uncomfortable)

"Oh, don't tell me you're just gonna sit there are ya?"

"Meow!" (Just watch me)

"Don't you like your pretty harness?"

"Meow!" (It's chafing me and the color doesn't match my fur)

I open the front door and she perks up a little, but doesn't move.

"Look the door is open now, don't you wanna go back inside?"

"Meow!" (I TOLD you that I'm NOT moving)

"Come on, just one step?" I tugged the harness gently.

"MEOW!!" (Oh yeah? Watch THIS!)

She backs up and with a jerk she slid out of the harness and scampers
off. Oh no........

I took a few steps then remembered that the door was still open so i
ran back to shut it. Then ran in the direction she went. I found her
next door behind a planter pot and she complained at me. I scolded her
quietly and grabbed her, and she protested and squeeked all the way
home.

Now she's stretched out on the living room floor like nothing happened.
Probabaly planning what to do the next time I put that harness on.

*sigh* This is gonna take a while........

Maybe i need to get harness where she can't slip out

Sounds like she may be one of those cats that can relax its bones.

But I really do wish you luck. If you succeed I may try again with Jake.

It's really interesting how they can react so differently. When I tried a
harness on Lindy, she loved it. She strutted around proudly, then went over
and sniffed Skeeter (RB) where a harness would go, then backed off with a
pitying look on her face. You could just tell she was saying, "Let me see
yours. Oh, you don't have one, do you?" However, that was as far as the
training went. As soon as I attached the leash, she laid down. I tugged
gently on the leash, and she just laid there. I even dragged her a bit with
it, but she wouldn't stand up. She was already an inside/outside cat, so I
gave up after a few days. I only tried it in the first place because she
tried to follow me when I went out walking, and I thought if I could train
her to the leash, she could go with me. However, I found that if I started
off in a different direction, she didn't follow.

Have you tried a walking jacket instead of a harness? It is supposedly
almost impossible for a cat to escape from a walking jacket. Here are a
couple of links:
