Default Sore nose?

My sweet little tabby is sneezing and grumpy--and this is the worst part--if
we pet her near her nose even very gently she snarls and stiffens as though
it really hurts.

She has asthma and allergies, and gets Depo Medrol
shots. (She just got one ten days ago.) I called the vet about her sore nose
and he told me to give her
2 mgs of Chlortrimeton twice a day.

Anyone else have a kitty whose nose appears to get sore
when she/he has a little cold or allergies? Should I be worried? The vet
says that if she has a virus it might take a couple of weeks to go away.
Thanks to all for any input.

I never had a kitty that had that (or any other illness or allergy, thank
God(dess)!). But I can tell you from personal experience, especially at
this time of year, when I am suffering from allergies the area around my
nose and forehead are *VERY* sore to the touch. When sinuses are infected
or just stuffed up, the pressure is terrible and just a gentle touch to the
outside causes pain. Also, if her nose is runny it's probably sore from
that too. If the vet doesn't think it's anything to worry about then I
wouldn't (I know, easy for me to say, it's not my baby!).

Purrs that she gets to feeling better quickly.

Hugs,

CatNipped

It sounds as if she might have a sinus infection and really should see
the vet in spite of what he thinks. That would account for the tender
face. Does it look swollen at all?

No, it doesn't. I called the vet today and he reminded me that the same
thing happened last year. She has allergies and asthma and ESG (an
allergie related syndrome) and the Depo Medrol works great, but because
it can have negative side effects, it is best to wait until I see the first
sign
of congestion or skin bumps. This time I waited a bit too long.

There is no discharge that I can see (although we know that cats'
tongues are their hankies!) but I will take your advice and take her
in if she is not feeling better by the end of the day. We have a really
good after hours clinic close by. Thank you for your advice. I have
had sinus infections and you are so right--they really hurt.

Thank you, Lori. You're absolutely right about the discomfort of
allergies. I think the Chlortrimeton will help dry things up. Meanwhile,
I got some new HEPA filters this morning, and will keep all the windows
closed for a while.

We don't have experience at my house with sore noses but we send purrs x
5 that your baby begins feeling better soon. Sam sends his special
anti-asthma purrs for her as well.

She seems better now that the antihistamine has kicked in.
