Monty, already in his charcoal grey tuxedo (with just the hint of a
textural stripe in the fabric), is having a serious talk with his
protegee:

"Dusty, that's a very pretty party dress*. And I got you this
rhinestone collar for your first big-cat party. But, because it _is_ a
party, you have to remember to be on your very best party manners.
This is an important night for M. Lenois, and I don't want you to go
zooming off somewhere and spoiling it. You and the other kittens can
play all you want in the sports complex tomorrow, but you need to be
calm and quiet tonight."

"I promise I'll be good, Uncle Montgomery," purrs Dusty, with her eyes
wide at the pretty collar. Monty puts it on her (it goes very nicely
with the dress - do you suppose he knew something?) and opens the door
to let her proceed him into the hall.

As they come (sedately! amazing!) down the stairs, Monty and Dusty
meet the Countess. "Monty!" she cries, with a laugh in her voice. "A
kitten? At your age?!?!?"

"Countess, allow me to present my _protegee_, Miss Dorotea Beatrice
FitzThomas," Monty says firmly. "She is in training for jingle bell
soccer - and for speedbumps, of course. Dusty, this is the Countess
Katzenplatzen, our hostess."

Dusty (having been carefully coached in more ways than one) says, "Good
evening, Lady Katzenplatzen."



* Dusty is a tortoiseshell, with solid-black "combat boot" rear feet,
and aspires to TGK-hood. She tends to favor camoflage-print
accessories (her harness and leash for human-on-a-string excursions are
bright pink camo...) But for a special occasion like this, she has
chosen a black brocade with small hints of gold in the weave. Her new
collar is black with crystal rhinestones set in gold mountings. She
feels very grown-up, even if she is only 4 months old...

I believe the Countess had planned to follow a rather different protocol
this evening. While an evening such as this would normally be highly
formal, I believe the Countess has been describing the evening to invitees
as semi-formal. There will be many boycats present in tuxedos and many in
their own nice-looking furs.

TV of course is going in his tux (would be sort of hard not to), and I
will be wearing my silver gown.

[Sammy looks thoughtfully and Lilith and ponders for a bit. He then
replies:]
Ok, if you PROMISE to be a good kitten. I see dat you've bathed yourself
an got da dust an catnip leaves out of your furz, that's good. Here, let
me brush your furz....
