Default what should I do with this lovely cat?

I live in an apartment and one of my neighbor abandoned a cat when they
moved away. Now this cat is in my apartment. It's really a sweetie. But cat
is new to me, so I have no idea how to take care of him(I think it's a boy).
I fed him sausage and he did not eat much. Yes I prepare clean water in a
bowl and he drank some. Now I am going to buy something really for him. On
the list there are cat food and cat litter. I am not sure about
others....Anything else should I buy for him?

Well that sure was a sorry thing to do!
Looks like you are going to get all the love they never took the time
to notice.

Cheers to you and your new best friend.

How nice of you to care for the cat! I can't believe the other people
left him like that. If they were that negligent, it might be a good idea
to have a vet check him over when you can (and you'd need to get a cat
carrier before the trip.)

Other than food and litter, you might want to pick up some toys for him.
That will help disperse some energy and nervousness. A cat scratching
post would be good to help keep him from scratching the furniture. Cat
bowls for food and water -- I usually get cheap ones (human ones) from a
thrift store. Those things cost a bundle in a pet store!

There are many other things you could get to spoil him -- just take a
look around Petsmart or Petco! Our cats love the round cat beds.

Hope he eats the cat food. Sausage is probably a bit spicy for him.

Hope all goes well with you and kitty,

Rhonda

You are a good egg to take care of him. Litter is a must, and to start
with I would get a decent quality dry food (there are several to try -
most cats will eat Nutro or Royal Canin or Science Diet without too
much trouble) and I'd pick up some Fancy Feast (the grilled varieties
are good) as a supplement. You could also pick up some treats - most
cats like Kitty Kisses or the Whiskas Temptations or Pounce. A carrier
will eventually be needed. When you have the money, a cat tree is a
good investment, but in the meantime you might want to start with a
scratching post (either a 3' rope covered post or one of the cardboard
alpine slanted boxes or a doorknob hanger). A feather wand toy is good
for interactive play as well as a few fuzzy mice for batting around. An
old throw is probably fine as a bed (assuming he doesn't sleep with
you) and usually if you just put it where he likes to hang out, then
that will work fine. Anything soft and fuzzy will do. And a little
catnip never hurts.

Thank you for giving the little guy a new home.

A few toys would be nice and fix a comfy bed for him. On the other hand,
he may want to sleep on your bed close to you. You will learn to love
cats. MLB

Thanks a lot for all your great responses. I just got a box of Frieskie's
for him (that's what I can find tonight) and it seems that he enjoys it very
much...I'll learn how to take care of him. And it seems that it didnot take
him any time to get used to this new place..He already had two naps on the
sofa in living room...I think he is tired . At least tonight he won't have
to sleep outside...Ok.
Thanks for your help once again.

That is awsome!

I don't mean to be jumpin the gun here...but you might be thinking
about a name for him.

What color is he

First, post a photo of him! Get him good canned cat food (first ingredient
Meat,
not by products) and a good scoopable litter, dust free. A nice litter box
and
scooper. A little brush so you can brush him. Bless you for taking him in!
He
will surely be your heart's delight for years. (He will need some things to
scratch,
too.)
