My kitten's abdomen is slumping.
I am new to the group and to cat ownership. I adopted 2 kittens back
in the summer, one male and one female. Their names are Donny and Marie. They are now 7 months and have been a great joy to me. I want to do the right thing so at four months, I had them both fixed. Donny is fine but Marie's abdomen is slumping, for lack of a better term. This occurred right after the surgery but I didn't think anything of it at the time. Her belly has sagged and it is clearly visible. You can feel two bulges or masses in the dropped area but she is not tender at all. Can other cat lovers who have had this surgery please tell me whether or not they have had a similar experience and if I should worry or not? Thanks in advance. |

I would check with a vet to make sure, but it sounds like primordial pouch (or "spay sway"). If so, there isn't anything you can do about it, but it also isn't a problem. One theory is that primordial pouches give cats extra protection in fights, but they do become much more pronounced in some cats after spaying. Thank you for that kind and helpful reply. My local country vet will
laugh in my face if I bring in Marie for this. I am sure she must have this "spay sway" since the condition coincided with the surgery and also since she seems perectly fine in every other way. I enjoyed the pics of you cats. Here are some pics of my beautiful friends. there are two pics. One is soon after adoption, in a box. In the other, they help me with the dishes. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...54&uid=4297243 |

I imagine this is a rather common question. MaryL |

My kitten's abdomen is slumping.
Ha ha. It is an exaggeration to say he would laugh at me. A polite
smirk would be more like it. I have already brought my animals down there several times when there was nothing wrong with them. Dr. Busby is a good guy. He doesn't have any staff or keep any records but an office call is $15, no lie. If there is nothing wrong with the animal he will way so. He does operations for the shelter and doesn't seem to care if he makes any money. Apparently he has what he needs and just does it for the animals. The other vet would do hundreds of dollars worth of test before they tell you nothing is wrong. Yes I could call him and he would answer the phone himself, for real. I wanted to ask the forums first and I'm glad I did. That "spay sway" really sounds right especially since there are no other symptoms. Her belly actually does sway back and forth when she runs, haha. Thanks again. Lawrence |
