Default Q abt long hair cats

I used to post here but my computer died, we finally saved up enough to
get a new one

any way, we have 2 brother's, Moe & Rudy, fixed, indoor cats...they are
large cats, are last one Sam was only 9 lbs...Moe weighs in at 16lbs
also has longest fur, he gets crap stuck around the butt area...we try
wrapping him in a towel and trimming all the hair around that area, try
washing it, and brushing....we can't hold him down long enough to do a
proper job...I called several on the pet grooming places around here
prices start at $65 we can't afford that on a regular basis

any suggestions???

never had long hair cats before, always short hair and we went to the
SPCA with that in mind short hair 2-3 yrs old that could handle kids
(grandson)

and we ended up with 2 brothers 8 months old and full of it they are
good with my grandson, we have a small place too...can a place be too
small for cats?

Watch what you feed the kitty. No human food and he shouldn't be that
messy on his toilet behavior. And no milk!

Try slowly desensitizing him to brushing and having the fur trimmed in the
anal area. Brush him a little or cut the hair there a small amount, and
reward him with food. Keep doing this over time. He should get used to
brushing and having his fur cut. If your place is small, provide the cats
with height, if you can. Provide them with window seats (very inexpensive),
or inexpensive cat trees with places they can sit on. Two cats would not
require much room.

A good rear end trim by a groomer or vet should last a year. I have the
vet do this to Tiger because he is too strong and unwilling for this to
be done without sedation.

Mmmm... that may depend on the cat. We had to clip our medium-haired's
butt every two months or so.

Then the vet does Tiger, she is able to get very close since he is
sedated. Tiger has VERY long hair (possible Maine Coon).

Any time Moe needs to go to the vet, ask if s/he'll do a quick hair
trim around his rear for you. Will probably take all of 2 - 3
minutes.

For a sanitary shave (also called a "panty" shave)? It should be about
$12.

Yes. Too many cats in too small of an area can cause stress and
behavioral problems. If the space is small you need to provide a lot
of verticle climbing space for the cats.

Love your .sig, BTW.

I trim the cats butt hair when he's just coming out of a nap. I don't
