Default Possible histoplasmosis?

Hi, Everyone!
My 12 year old red tiger kitty has been having issues with vomiting and
diarrhea for years. We've done just about everything. I've been on the
Feline IBD site and gotten some good advice. Recently, the TAMU vets told my
vet that my boy may have histoplasmosis. He's an indoor kitty, but has
escaped a time or two and eaten grass (which could have had bird droppings on
or near it.). Does anyone know of natural treatments for this? He's so
debilitated, hovers between 4 and 5 lbs, needs IV hydration, B12 shots, anti-
nausea meds, special food (and we've tried them ALL, including special raw
meat diet) etc., that I'm scared to try strong meds and my local vet is even
scared of anesthetizing him for biopsy purposes. Any help you could offer
would be greatly appreciated.
God bless,
JennD

Has he been tested for hyperthyroidism? Sure sounds like the symptoms.

Hi, Buddy's Mom!
He has been tested for hyperthyroidism and everything else my vet can think
of. He just recently had a full panel of labs done through Texas A&M
Vetrinary Lab. The only thing they could tell us was that his folate was low
and he may have problems with absorbing in his GI tract. Now the poor kitty
is having brownish crust around his nose that they think may be from GI
bleeding.
Thanks for your suggestion, though. Purrs to Buddy.

Shoot! That crust around the nose doesn't sound good. Purrs for you
and your kitty!

My only suggestion would be to get a second opinion from another vet--
but it sounds like you may have already done this. Hope he can turn
around soon. Hugs,
Rene

Thanks, Rene! We have consulted two vets, and my current vet just got back
from a conference that she went to mainly to ask some holistic vet
specialists about my Lucky kitty! That was so sweet of her! She got some
new suggestions for supplements we can try. It's so frustrating because we
haven't found anything that helps him, but we are game for any new trick they
can come up with.
Hugs to you and purrs to your kitties,
JennD
