Default I'm turning into a dirty old man.

Tonight I let my pussy eat off my plate while I was having dinner.
She kept pestering me so I finally just let her lick my plate and have
a piece of meat knowing full well that I've caught her drinking out of
the toilet.

Of course I gave up a long time ago the habit of washing my hands
after playing with my pets.

I guess by now you are used to each others germs. But it sounds icky!

Washing hands after playing with the cats? I'd rub all the skin off
them. I play with the cats all the time, petting or just letting one
sit on me. And I've let my cats sample some of my food (often ice
cream - no, not chocolate) and gone on to finish it. A few licks,
what's the big deal?

One of the boys will eat almost anything including vegetables, but
unlike Garfield, none of them want Lasagna. The sauce maybe.

I'm a big boy with a healthy immune system. I'm more concerned about
what I eat in restaurants than what I might get from my cats. And I'm
not very concerned about what I get in restaurants, or at least not
concerned enough to avoid them.

What I really try to avoid is allowing this behavior after they lick
their own (or another cat's) butt but I know it happens. Just don't
let me see it.

My now deceased cat Randy used to love tomato sauce. He was a tuxedo
with a white muzzle so it'd end up all orange/red when he was done.

people get far too hung up these days about germs etc, very very
silly. As a kid I was always inthe garden playing in mud and I truly
believe that exposure to a good number of germs then helped me to
developed strong immune system. I hate it when parents wrap their kids
up in cotton wool and do not let them experience the great outdoors
for fear of a few germs here and there, in actual fact they are
harming their kids by doing so as the kiddies are not able to build up
a good immunity to everyday germs inthe normal way so really theyare
doing them a disservice.

anyway, the cats in my parents home used to love to lick the dregs
inthe botttom of yogurt pots, never if you put some of your yogurt on
a plate specially for them though, no! they wanted exactly what you
were having and in the same way, even off the spoon too. Ice cream was
a another favourite and it is with my current lot; they love to lick
out the melted remains in the bottom of the bowl if left on the floor.
And of course milk left over atthe end of a bowl of cereal is always
welcome.

life is too short to get all precious and uptight about stuff like
that, and anyway, think of all the nasty germs and bacteria which we
have living in our gobs which may be more dangerous anyway? we cannot
live in a sterlised world, just not feasible or sensible.

There was a point in my life that my first cat and I used to share a
plate. I didn't think much of it until I met the SO who had a major ick
factor about it.

My SO gets upset about the cats walking on the dining table. While I
tend to agree, their legs are too short for them to eat from the seats
so what else can they do?

....

There's a lot of wisdom there. We evolved with lots of bacteria around
and our immune systems develop accordingly. I read a theory on an
intestinal disease (crohn's I think) that speculates that the lack of
parasites actually makes things worse. Here, it's this one:

http://www.webmd.com/ibd-crohns-dise...crohns-disease

There is also a reasonable viewpoint that too many vaccinations are
also bad for our health (as well as our cats). Our immune system
requires the battles with many childhood diseases in order to
graduate. I remember listening to someone debate this issue while
driving along, and they mentioned that one consequence of too many
vaccinations was eczema in middle aged people. I had just looked at a
small patch near my nose, visible in the rear view mirror.

Of course, you need to survive childhood in order to get these
problems, so I don't think that anyone advocates doing away with the
polio vaccine, smallpox, or diptheria. But the rest are really
questionable.

I eat fruit on the bottom yogurt every morning, and when I take the cap off
Lucky knows he is in for a treat. I always let him lick the yogurt off the
foil cover, and if he is really good I sometimes give him a little extra. He
absolutely loves yogurt. But I only give him the top stuff, he never gets the
fruit on the bottom, I am not sure If I should.
