Happy visit to the chiropractor

Well, this was my first experience with a veterinary specialist. Took
Meep to the cardiologist bright and early this morning.

Good news: She does NOT have cardiomyopathy, or hypertropia, or any of
those other big words! She was misdiagnosed at a previous ultrasound!

This was kind of a cool visit, because I was with Meep the whole time,
and he explained everything he saw in the ultrasound.

She has one small thing that's congenital, and one small thing brought
on by age.

The congenital thing is something I've never heard of befo moderator
bands. One of these runs along the inside wall of one of her atria,
this was seen by a previous vet as thickening of that wall. Another
runs across from one side to the other, small chance that this one might
cause problems later on, but not for a while.

The old age thing is a bit of mitral regurtitation - mitral valve
doesn't close quite properly, so there's a tiny bit of backflow. I knew
about this from the previous ultrasound, but it was kind of neat to see
it actually happening. The only other bad thing was he called her
"geriatric" Yes, I know, she's 13 but she doesn't *look* old...

Meep was quite the trooper. The vet's table has this hole, the cat is
not sedated, she's just stretched over the hole and the vet does the
ultrasound through there. One of the helpers (a veterinary resident)
commented that he wished all the cats would be as good about the
procedure as Meep

Anyway, big sigh of relief. I thought she had a cardiomyopathy that
might be getting worse, but nope, nothing of the sort. Doctor even said
her teeth don't look as bad as the previous vet mentioned - either the
antibiotics have helped greatly or her regular vet overstated the
condition of her teeth. We'll talk about this at Meep's next visit

The cost was quite high though - over $500! EEPS! For less than an
hour's visit. Fortunately, we shouldn't have to see him again for at
least 18 months. Worth it for the peace of mind, though.
