My little Antonio, a 1 year old semi-feral, has been missing since
Monday. The front screen door is broken, and we've been keeping it
locked to keep it secure so the cats can't get out, but one of us
must have forgotten to lock it. I had 4 (out of 7) cats get out.
The others are all regular friendly cats, so they got back in right
away. Antonio was under a neighbor's porch, and then he bolted and I
haven't seen him since. :-( I have 4 traps set around, have posted
fliers everywhere, and have talked to just about everyone in our
condos. I wish I could at least see him! I am worried sick. I
can't sleep at night. Antonio came to me as a foster kitten to
socialize, but he became Bartleby's best friend, and I couldn't
separate them. He's made a bit of progress since he's been here. I
can pet him, he comes up on the bed with me and purrs. Of course,
the past couple weeks I've been trying to put a collar and name tag
on him, but haven't been able to. I feel so awful that he's out
there, afraid.

Purrs that Antonio finds his way home. Purrs for you. I know what it's
like to have a missing cat and would not wish that feeling on anybody.

That's the reason I put a collar on my cats, so they can never be
mistaken for a feral. BF arrived with a collar and lost it, and it took
me weeks to get him to allow me to put another one on.
One night he seemed braver than normal, and was on my armchair very late.
I stayed up until 3 a.m., but I got one on him in the end.
They cannot get strung up by them, they have an elastic insert.
When you get him back you might think about putting a collar on, if he'll
let you, or if not, trap him up somehow and take him to the vet to have a
microchip in.

What really sucks is this was all the day before I was going to take him
to the shelter (where I volunteer) to see the vet, get microchipped, and
get his annual shots. I bought a collar and name tag for him a couple
weeks ago and I've been trying to put it on him. I never really worried
about collaring him because he's never shown any interest in the door.

Please don't beat yourself up about it, Kelly, these things happen despite
our best intentions.
It must be a similar sort of law that made my dogs only get seriously ill on
a Sunday, or national holiday when the vet costs megabucks. One of my
whippets once burst her spleen on Easter Sunday. I nearly fainted when I
got the read-out on the invoice. The good news was that she lived.

My little Antonio, a 1 year old semi-feral, has been missing since Monday.

Oh, dear! We are adding Antonio to our list to purr for today. When he comes
back, explain to him about the need for the collar. Hopefully he will
understand and allow you to put it on.
