Human purrs
 

*sigh* I hate doing this. It feels selfish. Unfortunately, my phantom
pain is not a cyst and remains a mystery. THAT makes me really nervous.
So far it's not getting better. I don't know yet where we go from here,
but since it remains a mystery that makes me much more worried about
it. I don't care for mysterious pain; seems more like all those stories
you hear. So any spare purrs would be welcome.

Yes, "mysterious pain" can cause the most concerns. The unknown is always
more worrisome. What is your next step? What does your doctor advise?
Certainly, I think you should see a specialist at this time -- but I also
recognize that the next big question is, "what *kind* of specialist?"

Now, that said, please try to remain calm (much easier said than done).
Many of these mystery pains turn out to be something very minor that are
cured simply by time -- and by relaxation, if that is at all possible. In
other words, take care of yourself and don't undertake any more stressful
activities than is absolutely necessary.

Have you tried a pain clinic? I've never been to one but know of people who
went there
and got treated successfully. Purrs going out to you to get this mystery
resolved.

Well, I am seeing a specialist. I'm to call Monday. Let's just hope it
goes away by then. I have been getting massages because I am all
screwed up in the back and neck (tension). But have a lot of work to do
on that yet. Here's hoping.

I'm really glad to hear that. You might also want to ask the doctor about a
pain management specialist. My mother suffered from the most excruciating
pain. In her case, it was caused by years of back problems (and 3 separate
spinal surgeries), followed by a slipped disk and pinched nerves. She was
also 85 year old! I took her to a wide variety of doctors, and they would
show me X-Rays that clearly showed spinal damage. At her age and condition,
surgery would have been impossible. Finally, someone recommended a pain
management specialist, and it was like a miracle. He prescribed a patch
that enabled her to have a constant -- but low level -- dosage of pain
medication.

Your case is far different, of course, and it is very important for you to
get a diagnosis of the *cause* of your pain. Still, it might be worth
asking about this type of consultation while you locate and deal with the
underlying problem.

I don't remember reading about the pain and cannot find anything about it
on the computer. I had such a pain that would come and go in the
abdomen. I was examined for everything from appendix, gall bladder,
ulcers, repeatedly over the years. Finally at age 47 it became acute and
fortunately I got to the right doctor -- it was a twisted bowel that
finally got blocked. He undid the twist and the pain has never returned.
I also had a neighbor who had a persistent pain on the left side. Turned
out her appendix was on the left side.

I hope you can find the right doctor to solve the problem. Best wishes.
