My possessive Dusty ...

Again, I gotta say, I have NEVER had a cat as POSSESSIVE as my Dusty.
Always at my side ... in bed ... at the dinner table ... at the
computer ... on the couch ... in the freakin BATHROOM ... I'm sure if
she could handle WATER she'd be sitting beside me in the shower.

If I cough or sneeze, she is there, literally in my face, making sure I
am OK.

If Oreo is laying on the floor and I stop and reach down to give him an
ear rub, she will PURPOSELY and with malice(?) get in between us. If
I'm on the couch petting the Cosmo cat, she will very CASUALLY walk
over and intimidate him off of HIS couch so we can be alone. It is very
funny.

And she is definately a 'man's cat'. She seems to prefer the company of
men. She will (again) PURPOSELY and with malice(?) - if a 'female'
talks to her or tries to touch her - turn her back towards the 'other
woman' and give her REAL cattitude (you know that "I'm not gonna look
at you" stance).

The really strange thing is, when she goes into a heat, she pretty much
has NOTHING to do with me - but when my sister comes by, she coos and
chirps and rubs her face all over her. Especially her shoes. But only
when she is in heat.

Does that mean she leads an 'alternative lifestyle' with a shoe fetish?

She really is the one that I will remember the rest of my life. I know
it sounds corny for a somewhat-middle-aged hetero male but, since the
moment she found me, I was all HERS. Even my mom laughed at how she
controls the boys (cats) and mom says she controls ME too.

Little wench.

So why isn't she spayed?

Ya know what I kept thinking how much I would love to see her being a
mommy. I think she would make a great mom cat and was looking for
someone with a beautiful clean male, but it never materialized. So I DO
have to get her spayed, I know it.

Sure would love to see her showing me her babies though ... she'd be so
proud.

So why isn't she spayed?

Newborn kittens are so sweet and it is a wonderful experience to watch
them grow. But!!! be sure you are able to find them proper
homes or keep them yourself. It can be costly and sometimes
heartbreaking. MLB

I'm sure she would be. BUT... if you have any doubt about how many more
pets there are than good homes for pets, visit some animal shelters and
see the perfectly good pets who are in need of a home. Some of whom will
be euthanized, even though they're perfectly healthy, because a home was
not found for them in time.

Then think again about whether you want to potentially add to the pet
overload in the world by not having her spayed.

Having just adopted two cats from a shelter last month, and feeling
terrible that I had to leave a lot of other, equally worthy cats behind,
I've got this on my mind. So forgive me if I'm on a soapbox a bit.

All other very valid arguments aside, and from experience, if you breed a
pet you WILL change its personality. It will become more self involved and
also centered on its offspring. If Dusty has kittens she will either have
to change her relationship with you or she will not be a good mother. I
don't think you want either of those things.

It doesn't sound corny to me, you sound like the kind of man I'd want to
introduce to my friends and seek out as a friend.

Hmmm. Tallulah's personality changed after Hubert was born and they
became inside kitties. She's still an affectionate kittycat, but not
nearly to the extent that she was at first. I'd thought it was because
she was more secure and didn't need to be clingy any more, but maybe it
was actually because she became more Hubert-centric. Hmmm. You've
given me a new angle on my constant kitty pondering. :-)
