The other day, the cats were having one of their fights. The funniest one
I've seen for a long time (they play-fight, never hurt each other).

It started with the usual stare match - who dares to stare longer at the
other. The one who looks away loses. Heads down, ears back, glaring from
under their brows.

Then one lifts a paw, slowly, slowly, holds it suspended in the air for a
moment, then slowly, slowly brings it down on the other's forehead. I'm not
even sure if there was an impact, certainly not a hard one at that pace.
Then slowly, slowly sets the paw back down. Then the other brings its paw up
slowly, slowly. Brings it down on the other's forehead, slowly, slowly. And
so on and on. And each time one lifts a paw for a slow-motion bap on the
other's head, the other one just stands there, frozen to the spot, glaring
under their brows.

I suppose neither one wanted to look away. Finally, they just went their
separate ways. Wish all cat fights were like this.

That's *exactly* what Frank & Yo do. Add to it the smack-smack-smacking of the
tail on the floor (wagging almostlike a dog). And Frank of course, is yowling
because he's such a crybaby. He usually "starts it."

Has anyone ever seen the videoclip "Why Sumo Is Better than Karate"? It shows
a kitten doing exactly what we're talking about to a big yellow tabby. Finally
the big tabby gets enough and pounces the kitten and flattens it. Someone sent
it to me ages ago, but it's still oneo f my faves.

Fez and Maya have done that live! Fez keeps pestering Maya until she gets
tired and jumps on him. It's really funny... :)

Our two do this. The big cat knows he's not allowed to actually beat the kitten to a
pulp, and the kitten knows she doesn't want to start something she can't finish.

Has to mean something in basic CAT. White Stocking, our feral Tom, was
nose deep in a can of food when up pops a No. 2 sized kitten, offering to
help him finish it off. I expected the kitten to get a hiss or a whack but,
instead, WS just put a paw on the kid's head and held it there. Said kitten
acted as though paralyzed, until WS removed the paw. Perhaps the practice
is somehow related to the Vulcan *mind meld.*

Reminds me of my sparring partner a few years back. He was 6'7" and
weighed 385 lbs. His arms were bigger than my legs; once he tried a
carotid block on me, but his arm was so thick he couldn't get it around
my neck. He would very rarely hit me back no matter how fast and hard I
swarmed him, but when he did, it looked like slow motion, even to the
part where I peeled myself off the wall and charged again. I think he
was afraid he was going to hurt me; not blooming likely since I could
outrun him when he got mad. The only way I could take him out was to
sweep his knee, but he didn't like it when I did that is how come I knew
I could outrun him. Of course he was only able to hop along on one leg
after I took out his knee. :-)

the "stiff-arm" in the NFL and is quite effective for keeping others out of
your face (or food bowl, whatever)......
