ignorant person, stray cat, plus kittens equals disaster

Someone on one of my regular email lists was telling all of us that
she'd taken in a stray cat that was about to have kittens. Today she
posted that the kittens had been born, and have been placed in homes
with different girls who live in her neighborhood!!! Two of the kittens
were given away to friends of these girls and she has no idea who they
are. The mother cat has also been adopted by one of the girls. I don't
know exactly how old these girls are, but I'm assuming somewhere between
10 and 12 years old.

I was aghast! I posted back, asking her if there was *any possibility*
that she could get the kittens back, or if the girl who has the mother
cat could take them in. I said that those kittens are going to die within
days if they don't get back to their mother. In my post I talked about
the fact that the kittens would have to be fed every two hours, that
they have to have their butts stimulated so they can pee and poop, that
they're fragile without their mother, and that orphaned newborn kittens
often die even with the best and most expert care. And *children* are
supposed to be caring for them? What was this woman thinking???

I can't do anything about this situation - I don't even know this woman,
except via an email list, and she lives nowhere near me. She's completely
ignorant about what kittens need. All I can do is send email with
information, and to *plead* with her to reunite the kittens with their
mom ASAP. It really makes me sad.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Purrs that she listens to you and the kits can be saved. It
sounds like the 10-12 year olds would have more sense than this
person. Hopefully the girls' parents will do whatever they can.
Sad story though.

Good grief! Surely even a ten year-old would realise that newborn
kittens who don't even have their EYES open yet need to be with their
mother? :( Poor kittens...

Maybe she was thinking "Gee, I'm not going to do all that stuff." :(

What a complete idiot! I really hope she takes you advice. You've done all
you can, Joyce. Purrs that the kittens make it, one way or the other.

I sure hope they get the kittens returned to mama-cat. If not, I sure hope
the parents of those "girls" (whatever age) immediately seek the advice of a
vet so they know how to properly care for the babies.
