Recommend a good cat brush/comb?
My neighbor has to vacuum her bed every morning because one of her cat sheds
like crazy. Persia doesn't shed much; I just brush her once a week (which she loves!) Any suggestions for a short hair-cat with a really thick coat who seems to shed continuously? I wouldn't want to have to vacuum my bed every morning. Jill |

Of course, it seems to stimulate shedding as well as remove existing shed hair, so it may make the problem worse for a while. -- T.E.D. ) |

Jill I think the zoomgroom might work like the glove I have picked up somewhere. It's like a mitten where the palm is covered by a rubber "brush". It's very good at getting the loose fur out. It does cause a bit of static electricity, but I work quickly and get a huge ball of hair out before Laku's had enough of the sparkling treatment. I tend to use it mostly during major shedding seasons, spring and autumn. -- Christine in Finland christal63 (at) gmail (dot) com |

It is really good at removing excess coat. I thought it was awfully expensive before Charlie bought me one for Christmas, but now I'd have to say it worth every penny. Jo |

Jill http://www.petco.com/product/106332/...oom-Brush.aspx Those are really great at getting the loose fur out and keeping it all in one place so you can dispose of it. I had a problem with Molly carrying hers off so she could rub against it on her own. I think it out in the back yard somewhere. I think we are overdue to have the yard guy collect all the pet toys and collections from the yard into one bucket and get rid of the really worn out ones. Jo Jo |

zoom groom to get loose undercoat and get the cat used to brushing, its more
like a message than a brushing. -furminator, works great good balance, don't get the wally version as it seems cheaper but you might have to get different blades so ends costing as much/more than the furminator, if you watch the pet stores they often have sales. -steel tooth comb, gets through thick fur, and you can use it to work out matts and put it behind matts to use sizzors or seam ripper on. -and i know this sounds odd but a human nail brush because the bristles are stiff but its small so goes on the belly and legs really well, also under the chin. the one i use is shaped like a regular hair brush but if i get anothr one it will be the kind that has the curved handles so i can put it on my hand so the brush is in my palm. small enough to brush descretly... i was also thinking of trying to get a color close to skin color so as to be less distracting by the color. hth. Just as an unusual suggestion: I have a pet attachment for my vacuum cleaner.
It's basically a soft rubber cylinder with a bunch of little rubber prongs extending outward beyond the cylinder. The problem, of course, is that most cats don't like the noise of a vacuum, or even the airflow through the attachment. But I had one cat who adored the attachment. Moe Lester really enjoyed being vacuumed and it seemed to do a good job on any loose fur. I use an ordinary wire brush on all the kitties. In fact, I use it on myself as my fur is too raunchy for a normal people-style hairbrush to do anything useful. I'm curious how the product recommended by several folks here differs from that brush. Art I've tried several different kinds of brushes. I found the wire "slicker" brush works best for TuTu. As for you, a shave and a close haircut might make life easier for you! LOL. While we are here, how are your fur kids now? Best wishes. MLB |
